Indica vs Sativa vs Hybrid: Which Strain is Best for You?

Human beings have been smoking cannabis for a long LONG time. Recent discoveries actually suggest that the Ancient Chinese used to spark up with their buds at religious ceremonies over 2,500 years ago. Since our species have been cultivating hemp and cannabis plants for medicinal and recreational uses, there have been an unbelievable number of different strains available. Like, too many to count.

Due to generations of cross-breeding it can be difficult to find pure versions of particular strains. Therefore, these days we tend to place strains into three different brackets: indica, sativa and hybrid. Each of these has its own benefits and effects that tend to help people choose the right strain for them.

Here at Wildwood, our products fall into any of the three categories. This helps you choose between experiencing the relaxing, euphoric effects of an indica product, the energizing, uplifting effects of a sativa product, or maybe the best of both worlds in a hybrid product.

However, when it comes to choosing the right one for you, how do you know which strain is best? That’s why we’ve done you all a favor and pitted indica vs sativa vs hybrid strains in the ultimate cannabis showdown!

Read on to discover which is the best strain for you.

Indica

Hemp plant detail shot

Let’s start with how the indica plant looks. Shorter with wider leaves, these guys take on a bush-like shape when growing and typically thrive in cooler climates. Their buds are denser and have a higher concentration of terpenes like myrcene and linalool. It’s these that give indica its calming, soothing effects.

Indica is typically preferred by those that smoke later in the day due to their relaxing effects. They’re perfect if you want to stick on your favorite movie or settle in with a good book. People often refer to it as providing a “body high”. This makes them perfect for soothing pain, decreasing nausea and increasing appetite (the famous munchies…).

Some examples of indica-heavy strains include the likes of Blackberry Kush, Forbidden Fruit and Blue Zkittlez.

Sativa

While indica is a short, stocky kinda plant, sativa is its taller, slimmer relative. These guys tend to prefer warmer temperatures and their buds aren’t quite so dense. When it comes to terpenes, sativa plants are higher in levels of pinene and limonene. These give this strain its energizing, euphoric effects (as well as an awesome scent of pine and oranges).

While indica is perfect for relaxing, sativa is the strain you want for a more energetic effect. Instead of relaxing on your couch, this guy is preferred for socializing with your buds over a cold beer or boosting your creativity. So if you’re planning on producing this century’s Mona Lisa, this is the strain for you. Because of its effect, sativa is used to reduce anxiety and increase focus by stimulating your brain.

Popular sativa strains include Sour Diesel and Tropical Punch.

Wedding Cake Hybrid CBD

Hybrid

As the name suggests, hybrid strains are the best of both worlds. When it comes to the indica vs sativa vs hybrid debate, these guys are sat in the middle, offering a peaceful compromise. Due to the fact that hybrid plants vary depending on the strain ratio, they don’t come in one shape or size.

Hybrids will usually be either indica or sativa dominant. The effects of the strain will depend entirely on the ratios found within the plant. Take our Wedding Cake Cartridge for example. As a sativa-dominant hybrid, you will feel the energizing, euphoric effects of a sativa, but with some of the relaxing, pain-relieving effects of an indica thrown in for good measure.

If you are unsure of the strain that is right for you, simply ask an experienced budtender. You wanna chill on your sofa in front of the next big Netflix show? Ask for the right strain for that. You want some inspiration to start a new screenplay for your next big movie idea? Let your budtender know!
